The Pazo de San Lorenzo, located at the heart of Santiago de Compostela was built between the 13th and 14th centuries, an incredibly unique venue and was the perfect location for the Gala Closing Event of the 1st Camino Film & Television Festival 2013. The Pazo’s timeless charm, excellent cuisine and the careful attention paid to every single detail turn any event held here into an incomparable and memorable experience.
The building is surrounded by a wood and wonderful, walled gardens occupying over 40,000 m2. The whole complex, which belongs to the Spanish
National Artistic Heritage, combines the traditional charm of the typical Galician mansions with great historical value.
Founded in the 13th century, it belonged from the 15th century to the Counts of Altamira who granted usufruct to the Franciscan Order. The building was a Franciscan monastery for five hundred years until the 19th century when, after State confiscation of church property, it was transformed into a palace. The current owners, the Dukes of Soma and Medina de las Torres, are descendants of the Counts of Altamira.
Remains of the original Romanesque construction can be seen in the lower part of the church, which has a surprising, 16th century, Italian high altar made of Carrara marble. The image of the Virgin and Child is the work of the sculptor Martínez Montañés.
The Pazo is open exclusively for prebooked functions as the current owners, the Dukes of Soma and Medina de las Torres, descendants of the Counts of Altamira, still live in the Pazo as one of their residences. It is an outstanding historical location to celebrate any special occasion.
