As we still experience a little bit of WINTER hanging on in Lugo (northern Spain) in Galicia I remember a fantastic weekend in Baiona at the Parador situated on the ocean with spectacular views, incredible ambiance and delicious food.
It was fun to sit by the ocean and rest our feet from walking, taking pictures and video of the Festival Arribada celebrating the arrival of the the Caravel La Pinta into the harbor that brought the first news to europe of the discovery of America.
The Parador de Baiona is situated on the Monterreal Peninsula and is one of the most unique Paradors with its building part medieval fortress, as well as, Gallegan architecture. It commands impressive viewpoint above the ocean within a walled enclosure. It is protected by the sea and is surrounded in part by a beautiful pine forest. To be here and walk its ancient walls is to feel some of the history of what it must have been like to live here in another time long ago – but now fortunately with all the modern conveniences making for a most splendid experience and memory which one will want to enjoy again!
Parador de Baiona Chef Antonio Fontenla delighted us with his incredible gastronomy creations. It was a feast for the eyes both with the spectacular views and Antonio’s culinary treats – one that we will want to sample again – truly delicious!!!
Thank you to Lumy de Maria (Parador Director USA), Baiona Director Francisco Jose Plaza Prado, Chef Antonio Fontenla, Ramon and all the Parador staff for making such an incredible experience and memory in Galicia and in Spain. We look forward to returning to discover more of your beautiful city and secret treasures in the Parador.
Muchisimas Gracias!
