Time to put on your jacket and maybe some boots and head out to visit Mondoñedo to experience a very unique and special Galician Festival. Celebrated October 17 – 20, 2013 you will share in a festival that is like no other. Just a little south of the Camino Norte and the town of Foz you can make your way to a very historic village called Mondoñedo and take part in the celebration of San Lucas.
The festival is of uncertain origin, was probably in the year 1156 when Alfonso VII granted the title of city as Mondoñedo and from that time they began to celebrate the holiday in honor of San Lucas. In ancient times the festival lasted for fifteen days and now though the festival retains its medieval flavor of ancient times the festival last 5 days. You will enjoy events with horses, traditional local cuisine and wine, music from the regions famous “gaitas” or Galician bagpipes that put just the right touch of music in the air to make you feel you have stepped back in time.
